3 Best Places to Go Apple Picking Near Philadelphia & Bucks County in Fall 2026

Few things feel more like fall in the Philadelphia area than spending a crisp afternoon at an orchard. Apple picking is also an easy excuse to get outside the city and explore some of the communities that make the surrounding region so special.

Whether you are looking for a lively family outing, apple-cider donuts and fall festivities, or a scenic Bucks County day that ends with shopping and dinner in New Hope or Peddler’s Village, there are several wonderful options within an easy drive of Center City.

For 2026, one thing is especially important to know before you go: spring freezes affected apple crops at a number of Mid-Atlantic orchards, so availability may be more limited than in a typical year. Checking each orchard’s current picking report before leaving home is particularly important this season. Solebury Orchards, for example, has specifically reported a reduced 2026 apple crop because of freeze damage. 

Here are three of the best places to go apple picking near Philadelphia this fall, including two Bucks County destinations that pair perfectly with time in New Hope and Newtown.

1. Linvilla Orchards — Media, Pennsylvania

Best for: A classic Philadelphia-area fall experience

Approximately 30 minutes from Center City, Linvilla is one of the region’s best-known fall destinations and a convenient choice when you want apple picking plus plenty of seasonal activities in one place.

The orchard grows numerous apple varieties throughout the season, and pick-your-own apples are typically available from late summer into fall. Pumpkinland, barnyard animals, the farm market and seasonal food make it particularly well suited to families or anyone looking for the full fall experience.

For 2026, Linvilla’s Apple Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, with a rain date of September 27. Pick-your-own apple picking begins at 8 a.m. that day, and the festival coincides with what the orchard describes as one of the traditional peaks of its apple season.

Make it a day: Arrive early for apple picking, visit Pumpkinland and leave time for the farm market and apple-cider donuts before heading home.

2. Shady Brook Farm — Yardley, Near Newtown

Best for: Apple picking near Newtown with a festive fall atmosphere

For anyone searching for apple picking near Newtown, PA, Shady Brook Farm is one of the most convenient Bucks County options.

Located in Yardley, just outside the Newtown area, the farm combines pick-your-own apples with its larger FallFest experience. Visitors can take a wagon ride out to the fields, pick apples while supplies last and enjoy the other seasonal activities happening throughout the farm.

Shady Brook grows varieties including Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, Cortland, Jonagold and several others. During FallFest, apple picking is included as an available activity with festival admission, while the apples themselves are purchased separately. The farm's published 2026 schedule begins FallFest apple-picking dates in September. 

This is also a nice option if you want to turn apple picking into a longer Bucks County day. After the orchard, it is easy to continue into Newtown, where State Street and the surrounding historic district offer restaurants, shops and a very different feel from Center City Philadelphia.

It is one of those outings that also gives prospective residents a sense of why Newtown continues to appeal to buyers who want more space while maintaining a charming, walkable town center.

3. Solebury Orchards — New Hope, Pennsylvania

Best for: A scenic Bucks County fall day near New Hope and Peddler’s Village

For the prettiest all-around fall escape on this list, Solebury Orchards is difficult to beat.

Located among the rolling landscape outside New Hope, the orchard feels noticeably more rural than Philadelphia while still being close enough to combine with some of Bucks County’s most popular destinations.

Solebury grows a broad selection of apples and produces its own cider, applesauce, fruit butters and other orchard products. During its main fall season, apple picking is scheduled Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with weekend wagon rides and reservations beginning September 12. 

There is an important caveat for fall 2026. Spring freezing temperatures significantly reduced Solebury’s apple crop. The orchard says quantities on the trees are limited this year and it is supplementing the experience with apples in bins throughout the orchard rows. As of September 7, Honeycrisp, Pinnacle and Gala were among the varieties being offered. 

That makes checking the orchard’s latest update before visiting particularly important this season.

What makes Solebury especially appealing, though, is everything you can do afterward.

From the orchard, you can continue into New Hope for lunch, shopping, galleries and a walk along the Delaware River, or head toward Peddler’s Village for another quintessential Bucks County fall experience.

Make it a day: Pick apples in the morning, have lunch in New Hope, browse the shops and enjoy the Delaware River before heading home.

Bonus: Pair Apple Picking With a Fall Afternoon at Peddler's Village

Peddler’s Village does not offer pick-your-own apples, so I would not include it as one of the three orchards. But it absolutely deserves a place in a Bucks County fall itinerary.

The village's winding walkways, shops, restaurants and seasonal displays make it an easy companion to a morning at Solebury Orchards.

Throughout much of September and October 2026, visitors can also see Scarecrows in the Village, the annual outdoor scarecrow display. 

And if your fall plans extend into November, the Peddler’s Village Apple Festival returns November 7 and 8, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The annual event has celebrated apple season in Bucks County since 1973 and includes apple-themed food, vendors and entertainment throughout the village. Admission and parking are free.

It combines countryside, seasonal activities, shopping, dining and one of the most picturesque parts of the Philadelphia region in a single day.

Why Fall in Bucks County Is So Special

One of the pleasures of living in the Philadelphia area is how quickly the landscape changes once you leave Center City.

Within about an hour, city streets give way to orchards, historic towns, winding roads, stone homes and countryside.

Bucks County is particularly beautiful in the fall. New Hope offers restaurants, galleries, independent shops and the Delaware River, while Newtown combines historic architecture and a walkable town center with some of the area's most sought-after residential communities.

For people considering a move from Philadelphia to Bucks County, spending a fall afternoon here is also a wonderful way to experience the lifestyle before ever beginning a home search.
